My daughter was a four-year varsity HS basketball player who learned everything she knows about the game directly from Coach Smith. He taught her the fundamentals of the game which has led to her great success throughout her high school basketball career. By her Sr year she was recognized as one of the top players in her league for her final three years. Coach Smith helped her to develop all the necessary skills, both offensively and defensively to compete. He just doesn’t teaches players physical skills but he shows players how to play the game mentally as well. His passion for the game is evident in all the time and effort he puts into making every single child that comes his way to truly become the best that they can be .By the time Whitney’s became a senior year at Milken High School she was named All League three times and named the Heritage League MVP 2010. In October of 2011 Whitney walked on and made the team at USC.

Being an alumni of El Rodeo Elementary, I was blessed to have a physical education teacher, a coach, and mentor like Bill Smith. I learned a lot of basketball skills and strategies from him coaching my ninth grade basketball team at Beverly Hills High School and them many conversations that we had while watching Crenshaw Cougar HS Basketball. Samir’s senior year at BHHS he scored a school record 51 pts. (Ocean League MVP -1993

At an early age, my son Joseff developed the basic skills of basketball and has acquired a keen interest in the sport at the local parks and recreation centers. After recognizing these factors, I felt that it was imperative that I seek professional help for him so that he may develop these skills in the proper manner. Since the local parks and recreation centers didn’t offer this level of training, we were fortunate enough to meet Coach Bill Smith, of the Bevwood Cougars. The Cougars basic philosophy stresses the fundamentals and the team approach. Joseff has grasped the Cougars fundamental for the past three years and I can bear witness, this philosophy has yielded championships. I believe that if your child can grasp these fundamental skills, their chance of functioning exceptionally well at the next level will be greatly enhance. His Jr.Year in HS (2011) he led Inglewood to the State regional semi-finals. Joseff in his senior year at Inglewood HS led his team to CIF finals. (SMC Grad 2015)

I enrolled my son Alex in Bevwood at age eleven for two reasons. 1) He was tall for his age and 2) he had practically no basketball experience at all (unless you count playing one on one with me in the backyard). He was 5′ 11″ but his basketball skills were poorly developed. At Bevwood, under the tutelage of Coach Bill Smith and his staff, my son made tremendous strides in improving his basketball skills. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, he learned a lot of basketball fundamentals and developed a very good sense of the game and court awareness. He improved so much that at the end of the year he played a pivotal role in Bevwood winning 1st place in the “Santa Barbara Classic Tournament” for boys 12 and under and was voted “All Tournament MVP.” This was made possible by the sound training he received in basketball fundamentals at Bevwood. Alex was a member of the Samo HS Varsity team ranked 19th in Southern California. (Univ.of Oregon Grad 2014)

When my son Austin was 17 years old he was a member of a nationally ranked AAU travel team. This is all due to Austin’s early involvement with Bevwood Basketball (he started @ Age 2) Bill’s devotion to kids and basketball is astonishing. Even more important Austin’s personal growth and life experiences with Bill is something I will never be able to thank him enough for. Austin a senior was a member of the BTI AAU Travel team, home based in Pasadena. He Played 4 yrs. Of Varsity Basketball @ BHHS. His sophomore year 2009-10 Austin was named 2nd Team All Ocean League. In 2010-2011 he was named 1st Team All-League & averaged 18 pts. /game, his senior year he was voted “The Most Outstanding Player” in the Ocean League and averaged over 24 pts. /game. In 2011-2012 Austin was named Ocean League MVP and again lead his team to CIF Semi-Finals; best Beverly Hills run in the play-offs since 1968, scoring 45 pts. In a game vs. Inglewood.

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my two boys enjoy and learn so much from Coach Smith during
the last seven years. Unfortunately he is unique. I wish all my kid’s teachers could have the attitude and
discipline that Coach Smith has which is apparent in all his programs at Bevwood. “Bevwood is the best
program I have sent my kids to.” Not only have they improved their basketball skills, they have learned
to have a big heart, operate with honor while respecting others , as well as striding to be the best in
everything they do. Coach Smith has made it all possible, I cannot thank him enough. Sebastian’s JV
Team @ Beverly Hills HS in 2009-2010 finished 21-4 ,best record since 1968, Sebastian clinched the
Ocean League Championship with 2 FTs with 1 second to go in a tied game vs league rival Culver City.
